New safety website and video developed to encourage owners to improve safety outcomes

Major Side by Side Vehicle (SSV) Manufacturers develop new safety website and video to encourage owners to improve safety outcomes.

As many workplaces and rural communities increase take-up of SSVs for work and recreation uses, the major SSV manufacturers and the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) are busy developing and rolling out safety advice and tips through a number of new platforms.

SSV sales have been increasing in recent years in Australia, and unfortunately the FCAI is starting to see an increase in the number of injuries associated with these vehicles when they are not used in accordance with the manufacturer’s safety advice.

Data provided by the National Coronial Information Systems (NCIS) shows that the users involved in fatal crashes are not using the seatbelts, doors or helmets as per the manufacturer’s advice and safety warnings.

Tony Weber CEO of the FCAI said:   “With the recent increase in SSVs for work and recreational purposes, manufacturers want to ensure all users understand the SSV features and are well versed in the safe use of these machines.”

In response the FCAI has produced an SSV Safety Video setting out best safety practices and advice on how to use the vehicle as intended.

This safety video can be found in the Info and Advice Hub section along with driving tips and links to further information.

The major SSV manufacturers (BRP, Honda, Kawasaki and Yamaha) will be promoting safe use practices through the new website and in conjunction with their dealers.
